5 Things to Avoid Before Your Massage

You don't have to do anything else than relax and enjoy a massage. These are the things you should avoid in order to get all the benefits from massage therapy.

Water is good, but Alcohol is not. Barbara Wilson is a licensed massage therapist at PGA National. In Palm Beach Gardens. The best thing to do is stay hydrated.

2. Sunbathe

Although it can be difficult to avoid, experts recommend getting your massage done out of direct sunlight. Sunburn can be extremely sensitive to touch. Wilson warns that it is not a good idea to have someone rub your sunburnt face.

3. Feel ill

Even though you can't stop your immune system from failing, it is best to cancel your massage when you feel ill. John Tanner (a licensed massage therapist at PGA National) warns that massage could spread an infection to other areas of your body if the client is sick. It's better for everyone to cancel within 24 hours and reschedule after you feel better.

4. Self-groom

There's no need to look all fancy before your massage. Valerie Cario (a "celebrity massage therapist" who can be booked through Massage Mesa: Massage-on Demand APP, says that "no one cares much about how your hair looks." It is okay to say that you haven't had a pedicure in the last few weeks.

5. Shower

While your intentions might be right, a hot water shower prior to your massage may not be a good idea. A hot rinse prior to your massage can help increase circulation, and improve your chances of sweating throughout the session.
